First, our guide showed us the stable where the elephants stay and how they fed them. Next, he taught us about an elephant’s body. (It was kind of like a field trip!) He told us that a lot of the elephant’s weight is on the front of the body, so the front feet are round and big, while the back feet are oval and smaller, because they carry less weight.

Then we met the elephants; Casper and Kitso. Casper is 24, and Kitso is 11. We got to pet them, and they even gave us kisses! Now I may live in Africa, but it’s not every day that I get elephant kisses! We also took them for a walk, trunk in hand. We got pictures.

That is an experience I won’t forget.

Kayla RodgersKayla Joy Rodgershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12142590180465666961noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2321301663268305724.post-77992830039761672332010-05-11T05:16:00.000-07:002010-05-11T05:22:38.823-07:00My new poemHope

Searching
Looking for grace
Trying to find that piece
Missing inside you want so much
Hurting

Needing
Not just wanting
I see a light in them
They then told me what it was: hope
Now found

-Kayla Rodgers

“Hope’s name is Jesus.” –Ben RodgersKayla Joy Rodgershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12142590180465666961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2321301663268305724.post-34658429121482132992010-01-16T05:47:00.000-08:002010-01-16T05:52:25.311-08:00New Year!Happy New Year! So we exchanged. Siwe had black flats, and I had two and a half inch high heels. So off to church we went. When we got there I was walking like a duck. I walked over to a lady complementing her on her shoes and expecting a complement back. When there was no complement, I walked off. I was also wearing pants that fold up at the end and one of the high heels got stuck in the fold. Sure enough, I fell… in the middle of the parking lot! I still didn’t know what happened. I was still standing up in my head. I asked myself, ”What fell? Oh, I fell. No wonder that thing was so heavy.” Next A young man came and tried to help me up, but the high heel was still stuck! Siwe, her sister Ruth, and all the other witnesses [about 20 people] were laughing HARD. Pride [literally] comes before a fall!Kayla Joy Rodgershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12142590180465666961noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2321301663268305724.post-86659421815023942022009-11-21T01:07:00.000-08:002009-11-21T01:09:19.191-08:00SickMy family and I are sick. Is there a better way to celabrate? That was awsome. We were looking at swimsuits and then the store played "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer".Only in Africa do you hear Christmas music while looking at swimsuits.Kayla Joy Rodgershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12142590180465666961noreply@blogger.com0
